The Choreography Workshop

The culmination of an exciting summer workshop for young dancers and choreographers, designed by Artistic Director Kyla Piscopink. In a safe & supportive environment, Kyla shares the tools and methods specifically designed to help the young choreographer realize and manifest his/her choreographic vision.

Participating dancers, ages 12-18, showcase their solo works.

1969

A dynamic evening of dance that utilizes the music of the year 1969 to reflect the seismic changes that were taking place in this country and around the world. The war in Vietnam, protests, the political divide, love-ins, peace, drugs, flower power, civil rights – all were part of the powerful forces of change that were taking place. 1969 was created in honor of Kyla Piscopink’s father who was a medic in the Vietnam War.

As John Lennon put it, “The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility.” Premiere: April 12-14, 2012 at The Waterfront Playhouse, Key West | Other Performances: NYC10 at Dixon Place, NYC August 22, 2012

Please join us for a 12 minute excerpt on 7:30p November 30, 2016 at Dixon Place as part of 8 in Show.

7:30p December 30, 2016 at Dixon Place as part of 30-30-30 (a gala celebrating the 30th anniversary of Dixon Place!)

w/ Ben Pegg

Kyla Piscopink and Ben Pegg come together for a night of music and dance. Featuring original music and choreography.

Kyla is the founder/artistic director of Dance Key West. She loves storytelling through intrinsic motivation and structured choreography based on improvisation. She believes that the body is a treasure map housing all of the soul’s secrets. Ben Pegg, hailing mostly from Provincetown Massachusetts, blends uniquely searing guitar riff-repartee with a tangibly soaked passion. His smooth aesthetic vocals are reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley and guitar playing on par with influences Michael Hedges and Stanley Jordan. 8p March 10, 2017 at TSKW

The ReMARCable Dance Project

The ReMARCable Dance Project is an innovative dance program that combines the talents of Dance Key West and MARC, a local non-profit serving adults with developmental disabilities.

This exciting, new program intends to benefit MARC clients by helping them improve coordination, participate in mild physical activity and provide an opportunity for socialization, all while learning the art of dance in the historic CoffeeMill Dance Studio. We believe that artistic expression and physical activity are imperative to good health, and that every creative voice should be nurtured.

This spring, MARC clients will be united with the Key West dance community and audiences, as they showcase their choreography at The Studios of Key West. We hope you will join us for what is sure to be an inspiring evening of dance! 4p Apr 8, 2017 at TSKW
